Power supply disrupted in parts of Kohima due to transformer failure; planned shutdowns announced for line replacement till February 24.

DIMAPUR — Power supply to large parts of Naga Bazaar colony in Kohima was disrupted on Wednesday morning after a 11/0.4 kV, 500 KVA distribution transformer was damaged due to overload.
In a press release, the Kohima Electrical Division stated that the transformer at Naga Bazaar failed at around 10 am on Wednesday due to overload, affecting electricity supply to a majority of the colony.
According to the department, it is making “all possible arrangements” to take stock of the situation and is working towards the earliest possible replacement of the damaged transformer. It also appealed to consumers in the affected areas to bear with the inconvenience.

In a separate press release, the department notified that to facilitate replacement and upgradation of high-tension (HT) and low-tension (LT) lines from High School junction to the New Assembly Complex, power supply on 11kV New Secretariat, 11kV Thizama and associated LT lines will remain under shutdown daily from February 4 to the 24th, between 5 am and 8 am.
The affected areas include parts of Lower Bayavu, New Secretariat Complex area, Phezoucha, Merubotsa, New Assembly Complex, CMRC, Thizama, Phezou, Meriema, and the stretch from Social Welfare department junction to new High Court junction.
The department has requested all consumers in these areas to take necessary precautions, plan accordingly, and cooperate during the shutdown period.
