MOKOKCHUNG — The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Mokokchung, under the Department of Social Welfare, marked World Day against Child Labour 2026 on Friday with poster campaign across key public locations in Mokokchung.
This year’s theme, “Red card to child labour: Fair play for children, decent work for adults,” guided the day’s initiatives, which focused on raising public awareness and strengthening institutional mechanisms to combat child labour.
As part of the drive, the DCPU organised poster displays at prominent spots including the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Mokokchung Municipal Council Shopping Complex, car workshops, restaurants, dhabas, and petrol pumps. The campaign focused on legal provisions prohibiting child labour and encouraged citizens to report violations actively.
Five fifth-semester interns from Fazl Ali College played an active role in the outreach, engaging directly with shopkeepers, workers, and members of the public to promote the protection of childhood and the importance of education for every child.
In a parallel event, the Labour Department, Government of Nagaland, in collaboration with the DCPU Mokokchung, conducted a training programme on the “Roles and Functions of the District Task Force, Mokokchung, in the Implementation of the Standard Operating Procedure for Rescue and Post-Rescue of Child Labour.” The session was held at the Conference Room of the DC Office.

The training aimed to equip task force members with essential knowledge on legal procedures, inter-departmental coordination, and rehabilitation measures for rescued children. Officials stressed that effective rescue operations must be followed by counselling, educational support, and family reintegration to prevent children from returning to labour.
Key stakeholders who attended the programme included the senior superintendent of police, assistant labour commissioner, chief medical officer, principal district & sessions judge, district welfare officer, district education officer, district child protection officer, urban development officer, chairperson of the child welfare committee, all block development officers (BDOs), and the president of Watsu Mungdang.
Participants underscored that child labour infringes upon children’s fundamental rights to education and a proper childhood.
They called upon the public to view the issue as a collective community responsibility and to report suspected cases immediately through the 24x7 Child Helpline 1098.
