DIMAPUR — The Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF) has condemned the alleged sexual offences against minor children in two separate cases registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in Dimapur.
In a statement, the federation expressed deep concern and outrage over the incidents, describing them as barbaric crimes against innocent children. It stated that such acts were a gross violation of the law and an attack on the dignity, safety and future of children.
The federation commended the Dimapur Police, particularly the Women Police Station and the investigating officers, for their prompt action in apprehending the accused.
It urged law enforcement agencies to carry out a thorough and time-bound investigation to ensure that no loopholes allow the perpetrators to evade justice.
The federation demanded that the accused, if convicted, be awarded the maximum punishment prescribed under the law to serve as a deterrent against crimes targeting children. It also appealed to the judiciary to ensure the swift delivery of justice, considering the gravity of the offences.
Further, the DUCCF called on parents, guardians, colony councils, churches, educational institutions and community leaders to work collectively in creating a safe environment for children, stressing that child protection is a shared societal responsibility. The federation also expressed solidarity with the victims and their families.
In a separate statement, the Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) has also condemned the alleged sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl in Dimapur, describing the incident as a "heinous act" that has no place in society.
Following the case that came to light on May 24, 2026, the youth front expressed deep concern over the crime and called for strict action against all those involved.
It demanded that the three accused be kept under close monitoring and that investigators conduct a thorough probe to ensure justice is delivered without compromise.
Stating that women and children must be protected at all costs, the WSYF said any individual who fails to respect the dignity and safety of women forfeits their standing in a civilised society.
It further urged that all relevant provisions of the law be strictly enforced and that exemplary punishment be awarded to serve as a deterrent against similar offences.
The front also commended law enforcement agencies for their swift action in apprehending the accused, saying it reaffirmed public confidence in the justice system.
Extending solidarity to the victim and her family, the WSYF reiterated its commitment to opposing crimes that threaten the safety and well-being of society.
