Farmers from Tethuyo, Sanphure, and Sangtoze in Kiphire were trained on post-harvest management and marketing to boost farm income.

DIMAPUR — Nagaland Centre for Human Development and Information Technology (NCHD&IT) and supported by the National Foundation for India (NFI) conducted a two-day training on harvesting, post-harvest management, value addition and marketing at Tethuyo council hall in Kiphire district on July 22 and 23.
An update from the organisers stated that the training was designed to equip farmers with practical knowledge and skills to improve their farming practices, reduce waste and boost income. It added that a total of 30 farmers from three villages, namely Tethuyo, Sanphure and Sangtoze, attended the programme.

It stated that technical support was provided by experts from ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research) and the Department of Horticulture along with resource persons from NCHD&IT.
The session on harvesting and post-harvest management was led by Alok Dubey, subject matter specialist (Agri-extension), and Dr. K Srilikha, subject matter specialist (Home Science), from KVK, Kiphire, while the session on sustainable farming and resilient agricultural practices was led by Seroba Sangtam, horticulture extension assistant from the Department of Horticulture, and soil health and pest management by Alemla Longchar from NCHD&IT.
The session on value addition and marketing strategies was led by Jenyangsonla Chang from NCHD&IT.
It stated that topics on improving crop quality, handling produce after harvest, using natural methods to manage pests and adding value to farm products such as drying, packaging and processing were thoroughly discussed. It added that farmers also learnt effective ways to access markets and increase profitability through better marketing strategies.
It further stated that the training has empowered farmers with knowledge and tools to make their farming more sustainable and boost their income.
