Around 200 Mid-Day Meal cooks in Kohima received training on nutrition and hygiene to improve meal quality in government schools.

DIMAPUR — A two-day capacity-building programme was conducted on July 22 and 23 at the district education officer (DEO) and sub-divisional education officer (SDEO) office premises in Kohima.
The event was organised under the Department of School Education (DoSE) with the aim of enhancing knowledge and practices related to nutrition, balanced diets, food safety, and hygiene among Mid-Day Meal cooks, according to an update.
The programme was attended by senior officials from DoSE, including the commissioner and secretary, principal director, additional director, joint director, and deputy directors.

On the occasion, Chef Supong, a renowned culinary expert, conducted sessions on nutrition, the importance of balanced meals, food safety standards, and proper hygiene practices.
Approximately 200 cooks from 122 government schools across four blocks within Kohima district participated in the training.
The initiative aimed to empower cooks with the necessary skills and knowledge to prepare nutritious and hygienic meals for schoolchildren, thereby contributing to their overall health and well-being.
