DIMAPUR — The Porütso Khel, Jakhama, has issued a clarification regarding the usage of the title “Zao” by the accused in connection with the October 25 Kohima murder case.
In a press release, the Porütso Khel stated that while it is not denied that the accused was under the umbrella of the late Holto Zao’s family, there are no documents such as scheduled tribe (ST) or indigenous certificates to support the accused’s claim.
The statement added that, apart from his Aadhaar card—which could have been obtained without family consent—there are no other documents to substantiate his claim.
The Porütso Khel further stated that it is totally ignorant of any adoption of the accused, either by traditional means or through any court procedure.
It also clarified that the accused had not made any contribution towards the khel and, therefore, cannot be considered a bona fide member of the khel or the village.
The release concluded by refuting the use of the surname “Zao” by the accused.
