DIMAPUR — The Kohima Police and the Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Additional SP K Soriso Quinker, have been widely commended by several organisations and authorities, including Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton, for their swift and professional investigation into the case concerning the death of Vihozhonu Zao, whose body was discovered on October 25 in Kohima.
Y Patton: In a press statement, Patton lauded the Kohima Police and the SIT for their dedicated work in investigating the tragic death.
He acknowledged the efforts of the SIT, which worked with focus and coordination to uncover facts behind what was initially a difficult and unclear case. Their systematic investigation and professional approach led to the identification and arrest of the accused, bringing clarity to a matter that deeply affected the community.
Patton also expressed appreciation to SP Kohima Khrodi Rhetso and every officer involved in the investigation for upholding the principles of duty and integrity. He recognised the importance of the team’s perseverance and the cooperation extended by the public, which helped ensure that the process remained fair and transparent.
He assured that the government remains committed to strengthening forensic and investigative infrastructure in the state so that future cases can be handled with greater efficiency. He also called upon citizens to continue supporting law enforcement agencies through timely sharing of information and public vigilance.

NSCW: The Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSWC) extended its appreciation to the SIT and Kohima Police and stated that the prompt and professional action of the police in ensuring that justice is pursued without delay deserves the highest praise.
The commission also conveyed its gratitude to the colony authorities, community members, and the public for their immense support, cooperation, and vigilance throughout the investigation. It added that such unity reflects the strength and compassion of society in standing up against violence and injustice.
Further, it expressed appreciation to all organisations, civil bodies, social media influencers, and individuals across the state who raised their voices and demanded justice for the victim, stating that the candlelight vigils and solidarity gatherings held in her memory were a powerful reminder of the shared commitment to upholding the dignity and safety of every woman.
KVYO: The Kohima Village Youth Organisation (KVYO), lauding the Kohima Police and the SIT said that the swift progress reflected the professionalism and efficiency of the police in ensuring that justice is delivered.
KVYO urged that the accused be tried under relevant sections of the law and be awarded the maximum and most stringent punishment permissible under the legal framework. It condemned the incident in the strongest possible terms and called for firm action to deter similar crimes.
The organisation also appealed for the judicial proceedings to be carried out in a time-bound, transparent, and uncompromising manner, assuring its solidarity and prayers for the bereaved family. It encouraged the public to remain united, vigilant, and cooperative with law enforcement agencies to ensure a safe society.
SAPO: The Southern Angami Public Organisation (SAPO) expressed its deepest condolences and condemnation of the murder, describing late Zao as a vibrant, talented, and promising 22-year-old student and athlete.
The organisation called for the swift and decisive pursuit of justice and demanded that the perpetrator be held accountable and convicted to the fullest extent of the law. It said the act highlighted the alarming decline of societal and relational values, calling for renewed dedication to promoting peace, compassion, and respect for human life.
SAPO commended the police for their prompt and effective action in apprehending the accused and praised the SIT for their professionalism and diligence.
It also thanked all organisations, individuals, and well-wishers for their solidarity and efforts in supporting justice, calling upon citizens to unite in pursuit of peace and humanity.
YYO: The Yimkhiung Youth Organisation (YYO) expressed its sorrow and outrage over the murder of Zao, stating that the heinous crime had shaken the community and demanded uncompromising action.
The YYO strongly condemned the act and demanded capital punishment for the accused. It called upon police and judicial authorities to ensure justice and uphold the safety and dignity of women and youth.
The organisation also appreciated the efforts of the SIT led by additional SP Soriso for their exemplary work in investigating the case promptly. It expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and reiterated its commitment to justice and the protection of the community.
