Lotha Students' Union directs its units to monitor government schools in Wokha against teacher absenteeism and proxy teaching.
DIMAPUR — The Lotha Students' Union has directed all its constituent units to monitor the functioning of government schools within their respective jurisdictions following concerns over teacher absenteeism, irregular classes, and rampant proxy teaching.
In a statement, the union noted that despite the introduction of digital monitoring platforms such as the SMILE app and Nagaland Vidya Samiksha Kendra for tracking teacher attendance, student enrolment, and academic activities, the actual functioning of schools on the ground remains unsatisfactory.
It observed that due to poor internet connectivity in remote and rural areas, many schools continue to rely solely on physical attendance registers. This has led to alleged manipulation and misrepresentation of actual attendance, rendering digital monitoring ineffective and making direct field-level verification imperative.
In light of these issues, all units have been notified to conduct ground assessments of all government schools in their respective areas, verify records, document findings with concrete evidence, and report any irregularities found.

The union stated that any teacher, proxy teacher, or authority found indulging in malpractice, proxy attendance, and dereliction of duty shall be immediately reported to the concerned authority and department for the initiation of disciplinary action under relevant service rules.
The union affirmed that it will not remain a silent spectator while the academic future and welfare of students are compromised.
The union further solicited the cooperation of its units, village councils, school management committees, parents, and all stakeholders to ensure accountability, transparency, and quality education in all government schools.
