Police personnel sensitised on ill effect of tobacco in Peren

DIMAPUR — The Peren division of National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), in collaboration with the District Executive Force (DEF), Peren, and District Mental Health Programme (DMHP) Peren, conducted a one-day seminar on "The ill effects of tobacco consumption and COTPA 2003" on September 29.


An update from NTCP Peren stated that Igwangheing Hemang, Superintendent of Police, Peren, has encouraged the participants to available the service and get early treatment related to tobacco uses and mental health problem.


Neilasenuo, clinical psychologist, who spoke on mental health, emphasised that mental health is as important as physical health. She also highlighted the services provide at the OPD highlighting about Tele-Manas.

Speaking on the ill effect of tobacco consumption and COPTA 2003, Dr. Ao Yanger, NTCP district nodal officer of Peren, shared how young generation are affected by consumption of smokeless chewing tobacco (SLT), which has now accepted as a social norm in the society. He added that oral cancer has been detected increasing not only in old age but also in adults. He further motivated the participants to come and avail the service and get early treatment.


Neivinuo, NTCP psychologist, gave a short briefing on the activities carried out in the district, while Hoinichin, NTCP social worker, chaired the programme.


Dr. Hiazuheing Ndang, pastor of Police Baptist Church, Peren, said the opening prayer and concluded with a pledge on ‘Say no to tobacco.’
