DIMAPUR — The first general body meeting of the Naga Council Dimapur (NCD), held on September 27, was presided over by the council president GK Rengma.

In his presidential address, Rengma welcomed all the NCD councillors who were nominated by their respective tribal hohos and unions for the tenure 2025-2030, the NCD stated in an update.

He briefed the members on the status of previous projects and shared NCD’s plans for new initiatives that would serve the interests of Dimapur’s citizens and the public.

He highlighted challenges related to the NCD office building construction project, despite the chief minister’s assurance of INR 5 crore in funding under NESIDS. The issue stems from the policy’s requirement for NCD to donate its land to the government, with the council only allowed to use the building on a lease basis, which conflicts with Article 371 (A)’s protection for Nagas.

Rengma also informed that the council had approached the Urban Development department to replace the damaged retaining wall at the Old Naga Cemetery. Additionally, it had submitted an application to the chairman of the District Planning & Development Board, Dimapur, for the construction of a wall and earth-filling at the newly acquired Naga Cemetery in Zani village.

He earnestly requested the councillors to extend their support and cooperation for the well-being of Dimapur’s citizens. The president also highlighted the significance of the meeting, inviting councillors to share their thoughts and opinions openly.

During the meeting, the house resolved to constitute a seven-member NCD constitution review committee. The house also unanimously reaffirmed NCD’s earlier initiative to lift the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act, 1989.
