Pochury Hoho urges NHIDCL and state authorities to expedite construction of the NH-29 (Kikruma) project along the Kohima-Jessami Road.
DIMAPUR — The Pochury Hoho has expressed concern over the inordinate delay in the execution of the NH-29 Package-II (Kikruma) project along the Kohima-Jessami Road, despite repeated assurances from the concerned authorities.
According to a press release from the Pochury Hoho, the prolonged delay has caused immense hardship to the people and continues to impede the socio-economic progress of the region.
It said that the Kohima-Jessami Road is a vital arterial highway and the principal lifeline connecting the districts of Phek, Meluri, Kiphire, and Shamator with the state capital. The deplorable condition of this strategic road has severely affected the daily lives of commuters, patients, students, government employees, traders, transporters, and the public at large.
The hoho noted that it has significantly increased travel time and transportation costs, compromised public safety, disrupted essential services, and adversely affected economic activities across the region.
The Pochury Hoho extended its support to the concerns raised by the Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) in its endeavour to safeguard public interest and acknowledged the filing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) before the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench, seeking judicial intervention to ensure the timely completion of this long-pending national highway project.
The hoho called upon the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), Ratna Infrastructure Projects Private Limited, the Government of Nagaland, and all other concerned authorities to accord the highest priority to this project by taking immediate, effective, and time-bound measures to expedite the construction works and ensure its completion within the stipulated timeframe.

It further urged the authorities to uphold the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and efficiency throughout the implementation process.
Stating that the Pochury Hoho believes that reliable road connectivity is indispensable for equitable development, improved healthcare, quality education, economic growth, tourism, and regional integration, it added that the prolonged delay in completing this critical infrastructure has denied the people the benefits of essential connectivity and hindered the overall development of the region.
It reiterated that the timely completion of the NH-29 Package-II project is not merely an infrastructure obligation but a matter of public welfare, regional development, and social equity. The hoho, therefore, called upon all concerned authorities to discharge their responsibilities with utmost urgency, accountability, and commitment to ensure the project's completion without further delay.
