DIMAPUR — To make this year's Diwali celebration greener and eco-friendly, the Maram Bazaar Youth and Students’ Organisation (MBYSO) planted decorative trees to augment the standing trees and replace old and worn-out ones in the town on October 20.
In an update, MBYSO senior member, Pungdi P Celestine, stated that the tree plantations was a follow-up endeavours to 'adoption of trees' of the village that was earlier undertaken to save and conserve the standing trees in the town under 'Go-green mission.' He stated that planting trees during such an auspicious occasion of Diwali was a wonderful way to show gratitude towards the environment and a small gesture in giving back to Mother Earth for its countless gifts that humans had received.
The village leaders who planted and adopted the decorative trees included former deputy speaker, K Raina; Dr. Ngouniba Peter; NPO president, Kuba Peter; former ADC members Luba Thomas and A Rang; prominent leaders Karaihing Abraham and RP Joseph besides hosts of village authorities, youth and students members.

It stated that MBYSO speaker said an invocation prayer and its president expressed words of gratitude.
It mentioned that in one of first-of-its kind initiative in 2023, the Maram Bazaar Village had initiated 'adoption of trees' in the name of village pioneers, departed souls of village elders, historical legends and institutions. Maram Bazaar, being a commercial hub for diverse communities after Senapati district headquarters, it stated that diverse communities would help to spread awareness and the importance of saving trees of what they saw at Maram Bazaar Town when they go back to their respective places.
