DIMAPUR — Phiro Baptist Church marked its centenary, commemorating 100 years of Christianity from 1926 to 2026, with a two-day programme held on January 8 and 9 at the Jubilee Ground, Wozhubanka, Phiro village, Wokha.
The centenary celebration was organised on the theme “Kumali Potsow ji Pfutssontoka” (Glorify the Eternal God). The programme reflected on the church’s journey over the past century and reiterated the village’s commitment to Christian values, social harmony, and community service, stated a DIPR report.
The main speakers at the jubilee programme were Dr. Kethoser Kevichusa, director, ILC, BMS World Mission; Rev. Zanao Mozhui, former pastor, Lotha Baptist Church, Dimapur; and Rev. Dr. Ezamo Murry, former principal, Eastern Theological College, Jorhat, Assam. The speakers called upon the congregation to renew their commitment and remain firm in their faith.
Extending jubilee greetings, Advisor for Agriculture Mhathung Yanthan congratulated the villagers on the centenary and spoke about the association of his late father, Rev. Ashemo Yanthan, with Phiro village.
He stated that his father served as a teacher at Phiro Government School for 14 years and expressed appreciation to the villagers for the support and care shown to his family. The family also made a financial contribution to the village outreach fund in memory of Rev. Ashemo Yanthan.

MLA Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe, who attended the programme, commended the villagers for maintaining cordial relations with neighbouring villages, including the Rengma villages of Nerhema and Zhadima. He encouraged them to continue fostering unity in the future.
On the occasion, Humtsoe stated that he had apprised Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio regarding the blacktopping of the road stretch from Phiro junction to Wozhuro, which had received assurance. He announced that the work would be taken up in commemoration of the Phiro village centenary.
Wonchio Odyuo, secretary to the Government of Nagaland, also extended jubilee greetings during the programme.
As part of the centenary observance, special prayers were offered for different sections of the community. Rev. Dr. K Benry Lotha, senior pastor, Kohima Lotha Baptist Church, led a prayer in remembrance of departed villagers. Rev. J Thungjamo Lotha, missionary, International OC Bhutan and Northeast India, offered prayers for the unity, peace, and well-being of the villagers. Rev. Thungjanshio Odyuo, pastor, Phiro Baptist Church, offered a special prayer for daughters of the village married into other villages.
The jubilee monolith was unveiled by Rev. Thungjanshio Odyuo, pastor, Phiro Baptist Church. The jubilee service hall was dedicated by Rev. O Yibomo Ngullie, pastor, Okotso Baptist Church.
Thousands of villagers, in-laws, and well-wishers from neighbouring villages attended the centenary celebration. The programme concluded with the release of 100 lanterns to mark the milestone.
