Phek Government College and Kohima College hold freshers' meet and foundation day celebrations, honouring outstanding students.
DIMAPUR — Phek Government College and Kohima College organised their respective freshers' meet and foundation day programmes to celebrate academic excellence and welcome students.
Phek Government College: Phek Government College held its 44th freshers’ meet on August 7 at Deo Nukhu Hall within the college premises. According to an update, the programme was attended by Deputy Commissioner of Phek Rhosietho Nguori as the guest of honour.
The event also featured the felicitation of meritorious students of the college. The L Mefutiba Award, initiated in 2018 by the then Principal of Phek Government College, L Mefutiba, with a cash prize of INR 5,000, was presented to Vemutulu Vero from the Department of Political Science for scoring the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 8.03 in the undergraduate examinations under Nagaland University.

The Meritorious Award, initiated by the Department of Education for the highest score in Education, was presented to Veduvolu Khamo for securing a CGPA of 6.85.
Speaking on the occasion, Nguori encouraged the students, particularly the freshers, highlighting the importance of choices in life. He stated that while individuals have no control over life and death, they possess the power to choose how they live. He urged the students to take responsibility for their lives and make decisions that lead to success, noting that today's choices have consequences tomorrow.
Kohima College: Kohima College celebrated its 59th foundation day at the college courtyard on Saturday, commemorating the institution's journey.
The programme was attended by Dr. Watijungshi Jamir, retired Additional Director of Higher Education and former Principal of Kohima College, as the special guest.
In his address, Dr. Jamir recalled his association with the college and expressed happiness at its growth. He noted that the institution was established through the conviction and determination of its founders rather than a conventional roadmap. He encouraged students to carry forward the college's legacy and contribute meaningfully to its journey.
The event featured the presentation of several academic awards. Manyei Konyak received the Commerce department’s Outstanding Student Award 2026, while Shukiu T was recognised as the History department topper. Vetazo Veswüh received the Undergraduate Meritorious Award 2026 for being the highest scorer in the sixth-semester examination.
In the postgraduate category, Hengwale Kent and Viketuno Tsükrü secured Nagaland University ranks 1 and 2, respectively.
The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) Academic Achievement Awards, carrying a cash prize of INR 5,000 and a citation for university rank holders other than the rank 1, were presented to Liiline Vemai, Ajano W Kikon, Viketuno Tsükrü, Pajei K, Shongmo K, and Siaga Lungalang.
Hengwale Kent of MA Political Science, who secured Nagaland University Rank 1 with a CGPA of 8.81, received the Kohima College Academic Excellence Award for University Topper 2026, which carries a certificate and INR 30,000.
Liiline Vemai of the Economics department was honoured with the Alumni Meritorious Award 2025 for making it to Nagaland University's top 4 with a CGPA of 8.85, receiving a certificate and INR 10,000.
The Dr. Satuo Sekhose Star Pupil Award 2026, sponsored by the children of late Dr. Satuo Sekhose, was presented to Keneivotuo Kesiezie of the Economics department, carrying a cash prize of INR 30,000 and a certificate.
The IQAC also honoured four faculty members for their scholarly publications: Dr. Konei Nakhro, Dr. Petevino Chase, Dr. Kekhrieseno Christina, and Dr. Thoshusie Katiry.
Additionally, Sonika Rathu of the History department was recognised for winning a consolation prize of INR 3,000 along with free admission and study materials in the NPSC Mentors–2.0 Inkspire Essay Competition 2026.
