DIMAPUR — The Phek District Nagaland Contractors’ and Suppliers’ Union (PDNCSU) has urged immediate intervention to address deteriorating road conditions in the district, calling on authorities and implementing companies to take prompt action.

In a statement on Tuesday, the union expressed support for the Centre Chakhesang Public Organisation’s (CCPO) ultimatum to the Deputy Commissioner, Phek, regarding alleged negligence by KKB Company in repairing and maintaining the Pfutsero-Phek two-lane road via EAC Sakraba Headquarters.

The PDNCSU said the company’s failure to maintain the road since its completion reflects an “ignorant attitude towards its own profession” and warned that KKB must be held responsible for any incidents arising from the poor road conditions.

The union highlighted that the current state of the road has caused “grievous” inconvenience to the public, particularly during emergencies at night when landslides block the route. The PDNCSU demanded that KKB immediately restore machinery and repair the road damages.

“The concerned administering authority must immediately take necessary actions against the KKB Company for its arrogance in neglecting its duties entirely during the maintenance period of 5 years,” the statement read.

The union also called on Shivalaya Company to deploy machinery and manpower along the Chakhabama-Zunheboto two-lane road around the clock, particularly in landslide-prone stretches, including the Thenyizumi-Sidzu River section, to ensure safe passage.

Regarding the Kohima-Jessami two-lane road, the PDNCSU urged Ratna Company to accelerate construction along the Chakhabama-Kikrüma stretch, noting that slow progress has caused difficulties for commuters.

The union further instructed all implementing firms in the district to maintain quality workmanship, use appropriate raw materials, and ensure machinery and manpower are deployed in vulnerable areas.

Additionally, it called on the PWD (R&B) department to carry out maintenance on all district roads, many of which have deteriorated due to heavy monsoon rains, affecting daily life for local residents.
