DIMAPUR — The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Pfutsero Government College in Phek district conducted a one-day workshop on ‘Work ethic and workplace etiquette’ for non-teaching staff on Friday.

An update from the college stated that Dr. Elizabeth Walling, Principal of State College of Teacher Education (SCTE), Kohima, and resource person, spoke on the importance of sincerity at work under the light of God’s guidance. She encouraged the staff to view the workplace as a family, where compassion is shown without complaint and mutual support is valued.

While stating that the years in government service is short, she called upon the employees to give their best saying, each individual’s unique talents must be translated into quality work.

“To leave a meaningful legacy, both ethics and etiquette were described as indispensable. Ethics concerns questions of right and wrong, while etiquette relates to good manners and everyday conduct. Among these, punctuality was highlighted as a key marker of professionalism. Responsibility, honesty, and trustworthiness — qualities practiced within the home — were also urged to be demonstrated in the workplace,” the statement read.

Participants were reminded that every profession carries its own ethical obligations which must be faithfully upheld. She gave examples of prohibition orders on spitting and throwing garbage to make her point. She added that although ethics and etiquette are not formally taught in classrooms, staff could impart those values to students through example even in routine tasks such as assisting with documentation work.

The programme began with a welcome address delivered by the college’s principla, Dr. Anungla Pongener, and concluded with remarks delivered by IQAC secretary, Chothazo Nienu, who expressed appreciation to the resource person and participants for making the workshop successful.
