full support to the Chakhesang Students' Union (CSU) in their stand against the
deteriorating condition of the 2-lane road (Package 2) between Chakhabama and

- The union has strongly condemned the inaction and
substandard execution of the road project, which has directly affected the
lives and livelihoods of commercial drivers and vehicle owners who rely on this
route for their daily operations. It claimed that the deplorable road
conditions have led to exponential increase in vehicle maintenance and repair costs
due to potholes, poor drainage and rough surfaces.
- It added that the poor condition of the highway has led to
slower travel times and drastically reduced productivity. Besides, it stated
that risk to human life has also increased with accidents becoming more
frequent due to the unsafe road conditions.
- In light of the above stated circumstances, the union has
demanded NHIDCL Kohima regional office to take urgent and corrective action to
ensure immediate rehabilitation and completion of the Chakhabama-Kikruma road
as per contractual obligations and in compliance with road safety and
engineering standards.
- It further warned that NHIDCL would be held solely
responsible for any further damage to vehicles, loss of life or inconveniences
caused to the public if fails to act decisively.
- In a related statement, the Pfutsero Town Chakhesang
Students’ Union (PTCSU) strongly condemned the negligence and irresponsibility
displayed by the NHIDCL and M/s Ratna Infrastructure Projects Pvt. Ltd., in
connection with the Chakhabama–Kekrurna Road (Package 2) under NH-29.
