- DIMAPUR — Frustrated
with the persistent delays in the Chakhabama-Kikruma package II road
construction project, the Chakhesang Students' Union (CSU) has announced an
indefinite blockade on vehicular movement of NHIDCL and M/S Ratna
representatives as well as all government-registered vehicles on the
Chakhabama-Kikruma stretch of National Highway 29.
- A press statement on Sunday informed that the blockade will
commence at 6 am on Monday, May 12.
- The CSU's decision comes after the National Highways and
Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and its EPC contractor,
M/S Ratna Infrastructure Project Private Limited, failed to meet deadlines despite
being granted a generous timeframe of over six months, spanning from October
16, 2024, to May 11 this year, to complete the project.

- Despite issuing an ultimatum on May 2 and holding a peaceful
protest on May 10, the Union termed the response from NHIDCL and M/S Ratna as
"appalling and irresponsible.”
- “This lack of accountability compels the Union to take
further action,” it stated and directed all stakeholders to comply with the
blockade directive, holding NHIDCL solely responsible for any incidents that
may arise as a result of the blockade.
