KOHIMA — With the old Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) dumping site being prone to landslides every monsoon season and posing risks to commuters, a traffic police booth will soon be set up at the site to ensure a constant police presence, a traffic official informed media persons on Monday.
S Mar, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of North Traffic Kohima, said that all necessary materials for setting up the traffic booth are ready and expressed confidence that the selected location is safe.
He added that a duty officer, along with traffic personnel, is deployed daily at the site to monitor the road and provide updates to higher authorities.
Recalling the recent landslide at the site on Saturday, he said the NH PWD team promptly cleared the debris the same day, restoring vehicle movement. He
informed that during such events, the alternative route is via Jotsoma village.

During a visit to the site, electricians were seen working on poles and wires affected by the landslide.
Raja Boro, an employee of MS Company, shared that the landslide had damaged a light post, which was on the verge of collapse, prompting them to shift the wires to a nearby pole.
As a local resident, Boro also raised concerns about recurring landslides at the site, stating that the sliding earth is gradually approaching residential buildings. He appealed to the concerned authorities to construct proper retaining walls and take preventive action at the earliest.
