DPDB meetings in Peren, Tseminyu, and Longleng districts address developmental projects, local issues, and disaster preparedness.
DIMAPUR — The monthly District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meetings for Peren, Tseminyu, and Longleng districts were held on Thursday to discuss developmental activities, disaster management, and preparations for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations.
Peren: The Peren DPDB board meeting was held at the deputy commissioner’s (DC) conference hall under the chairmanship of DC and Vice Chairman Hiazu Meru.
According to a DIPR report, the board discussed conducting a mass social work on August 7 at the DC’s office complex as part of preparations for Independence Day.
Heads of departments were requested to ensure the participation of their staff. Regarding the construction of government office buildings in the district headquarters, the DC informed that dobashis had been deputed to verify the status of ongoing works and advised heads of offices to regularly supervise construction.
The DC expressed concern over an order issued by the School Education department regarding the closure of Government Primary School in Libemphai. The senior SDEO informed the house that although the school had functioned smoothly since inception under community teachers, no government teacher had ever been posted there.
The school continues to function under community teachers with 26 students. The board decided to write to the department requesting a review of the closure order and the immediate posting of government teachers.
On disaster preparedness, the DC urged members to remain vigilant due to unpredictable weather patterns and report any incidents promptly. The board also discussed the Gram Panchayat Development Plan and requested line departments to actively participate at the village level.
The board approved the LADP/ICONIC schemes for 6 Tening and 7 Peren assembly constituencies, as well as the registration of the Affected Land Owner Association of National Highway 129A, Package 1A. The Chief Technical Officer of KVK Jalukie, L Babita Devi, gave a presentation on the activities of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Jalukie.
The departments of Economics and Statistics and Education were tasked with delivering presentations at the next meeting.
Tseminyu: In Tseminyu, the board meeting was held at the DC’s conference hall under the chairmanship of DC Japheth Woch.
During the meeting, work distribution for the Independence Day celebration was assigned to various departments and stakeholders.
Assistant Urban Development Officer of Tseminyu, L Rokovono, presented a sensitisation on Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026. The DC apprised the members of the need to prepare local action plans involving departments, civil bodies, and non-governmental organisations. The Horticulture department also presented its activities in the district.
Longleng: The Longleng board meeting was held at the DPDB Hall under the chairmanship of DC and Vice Chairman W Manpai Phom. The chairman apprised the board that the district faced a massive disaster after incessant rain cut off road connectivity and telecom lines, affecting villages, farmlands, forests, and houses.
Agriculture and allied departments were directed to collect detailed assessment reports on damaged farmlands and telecom infrastructure. Following a review of the previous meeting minutes, ADC Longleng Thungchanbemo Tungoe briefed the house on new criteria set up by committee members, including civil society organisations, non-governmental organisations, and other institutions, for district awards.
The District Commandant of Home Guards, Chibeni Ezung, briefed the house on the need for Civil Defence in the district and submitted a proposal for its establishment. Executive Engineer for Transmission in Mokokchung, Hokaito Assumi, highlighted issues regarding the 132/133 KV substation at Pongo village, noting difficulties faced with landowners during vegetation clearance and appealing for cooperation.
The board discussed a proposal by the Eastern Naga Women Organisation for drainage infrastructure development, with the chairman urging the concerned department to conduct a comprehensive field assessment of all blocks.
The Assistant Programme Coordinator of DRDA, Y Tongpang Phom, presented departmental activities. The board decided to conduct a mass social work on August 8 in preparation for Independence Day. The Education department was entrusted with presenting its activities at the next meeting.
