- In his address, Dr. Shikhu emphasised the significance of
heritage stating that, “The foundation of interweaving cultural threads starts
from possessing traditional knowledge.”
- He also highlighted the growing threat of cultural
appropriation, calling it “an act of exploiting one’s culture” and appealed to
the audience to “resist such practices in order to protect cultural integrity.”
- Drawing inspiration from the event’s theme, he said, “The
thread is holding the culture and interweaving all the tribes.” He added that
interweaving of culture must begin with language and knowledge of one’s
culture.
- Post the formal session, the campus came alive with cultural
competitions such as folk songs, folk dances, folk dramas, war cry chanting and
folk storytelling. Students also participated in an ethnic show, wearing
traditional attires reflecting the distinct identities of their respective
communities and states.
- To mark the occasion, a range of culturally-rooted
competitions including hopping, winnowing, hen hunting, traditional
fire-making, cock fighting, pork fat and King Chilli eating, obstacle racing
and Naga wrestling were organised.
