PAC discusses Naga political issue, explores common civil society platform and vows intensified efforts for an inclusive solution.

DIMAPUR — The Political Affairs Committee (PAC), chaired by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, held a meeting at Rhododendron Hall, Police Complex, Chümoukedima, on Saturday.
The PAC comprises members of the Council of Ministers and legislature party leaders of all political parties represented in the current Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA). It was constituted to facilitate an inclusive solution to the long-standing Naga political issue.
Briefing the media after the meeting, Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang said that no formal resolution was adopted, and discussions largely centred on the Naga political issue.

According to him, it was agreed that efforts would be intensified this year to arrive at some tangible outcome.
Zeliang added that the committee discussed the need to create a common Naga platform within Nagaland, noting that at present many NGOs function in a fragmented manner and speak independently on the issue.

Stating that elected representatives function under the Constitution of India, he said there should be a single apex civil society platform that could represent the Naga people as a whole and speak with one voice on the Naga political issue.
On the proliferation of Naga political groups, Zeliang said this was why the government was urging Naga tribe hohos to come together and persuade all factions to unite under one umbrella. He maintained that there can be only one solution to the Naga issue and not multiple solutions.

PAC member and MLA Achumbemo Kikon said that the committee had reached a common understanding to actively pursue the resolution of Naga political issue in 2026, though no resolution was adopted at the meeting. He added that the committee would act as an active facilitator in the process.
Responding to a query on the Enforcement Directorate filing a charge sheet under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in Dimapur in connection with the alleged misappropriation of public funds and substandard construction of the new High Court complex in Kohima, Minister for Roads and Bridges Kaito Aye said that the proceedings were ongoing and facts would emerge in due course.
