DIMAPUR — Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Saturday said that the Centre would have to provide Nagaland with a new airport if the Assam Rifles Training Centre (ARTC) fails to vacate land earmarked for the first phase of Dimapur Airport expansion.
Responding to media queries after the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting in Chümoukedima, Rio said that the state government would take up the matter with the central ministry concerned to explore possible alternatives, as the ARTC has not fully vacated the 18.9 acres of land despite an evacuation deadline set for October 2025.
He stated that the issue was discussed during the PAC meeting and they arrived at the decision that in the event the ARTC does not relocate, the responsibility would lie with the Centre to provide Nagaland with a new airport.
