DIMAPUR/WOKHA — Several organisations in
Nagaland on Saturday held felicitation programmes to honour students who
excelled in their board examinations.
LSU: The Lotha
Students’ Union (LSU) felicitated the HSLC and HSSLC meritorious students of
the exam conducted by the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) at Don
Bosco Higher Secondary School Youth Centre, Wokha.
The programme was attended by Orenthung Lotha, Commissioner
and Secretary of the Public Health Engineering Department, who also serves as
president of the Lotha Officers’ Association (LOA).
Speaking on the occasion, Orenthung praised this year’s
event for providing a unified platform to celebrate achievements together, as
LSU has typically held separate ceremonies each year.
He reflected on the growing academic pressure among
students, which often leads to frustration and depression, and urged students
to understand that academic results alone do not define their future. Instead,
he encouraged them to broaden their horizons and adopt a wider view of success.
He emphasised that the National Education Policy 2020
promotes a holistic approach to education, integrating skill development and
vocational training to empower individuals with relevant survival skills.
He advised students to move beyond traditional aspirations
of securing government jobs, noting that saturation in the sector has made
opportunities scarce.
Encouraging them to align their education with personal
interests and market demands, he highlighted that unemployment often results
from irrelevant educational choices with limited job prospects.
To address underemployment and unemployment, Orenthung urged
students to make informed choices and called on parents, teachers, and elders
to guide young minds, stating they are the future assets of the community.
In his welcome address, LSU president Lirhonthung E Kithan
praised government high schools Englan and Rachan in Wokha district for
achieving a 100% pass rate.
Kithan urged government educational institutions to
assess their performance and focus their efforts on producing better results.
Brief messages were delivered by Chumben Khuvung, general
secretary of the Naga Students’ Federation; Thungbeni Ngullie, president of
Lotha Eloe Hoho (LEH); and K. Edward Ngullie, president of the All Nagaland
Private Schools Association (ANPSA), Wokha unit.
