- KOHIMA — The Nagaland Board of School Education
(NBSE) has notified all government schools in the state to strengthen sports
activities and implement the state government's guideline on sports and
physical education.
- In a notification issued on Friday, the board stated that,
as per the National Education Policy 2020, the emphasis is on sports-integrated
learning to focus on skills such as collaboration, self-initiative, self-direction,
self-discipline, teamwork, spirit of competition, fostering friendship,
responsibility, and leadership qualities in students.
- To nurture talents and boost grassroots participation in
sports and physical education, government school heads have been requested to
strengthen regular sports activities so that children are better prepared to
compete at district and state-level sports meets.
- The notification also emphasised that sports should be a
yearlong, sustained activity instead of a one-time event.
- Towards this, the department of School Education has
integrated sports into the annual academic calendar, with a special focus on
football, track and field, and indigenous games for elementary schools, and
football, sepak takraw, track and field, badminton, and volleyball for
secondary students, it stated.

- Among the guidelines to be implemented by schools are the
utilisation of sports equipment provided by Samagra Shiksha, Fit India-related
activities every year, formation of school sports committee, sports for
children with special needs, annual sports day, sports competitions and others.
- Further, schools are to integrate at least 30 minutes for
daily PT sessions as part of the regular curriculum for all students in their
timetables, and schools shall also reserve at least one games period daily for
students.
