Sümi Totimi Hoho and Southern Angami Sports Association condemn recent “cold-blooded murder” of Vihozhonu Zao in Kohima

DIMAPUR — The Sümi Totimi Hoho (STH) and Southern Angami Sports Association (SASA) have condemned the recent “cold-blooded murder” of basketball player Vihozhonu Zao in Kohima.
In a press release, the STH stated that the “appalling and senseless act” has shaken the conscience of society and must be condemned in the strongest possible terms.
It called upon the law enforcement authorities and the investigation team to ensure a transparent, impartial, and time-bound investigation leading to the immediate arrest and prosecution of all those involved in this heinous crime.
“Crimes against women are an affront to our moral and cultural values. The STH urges every section of society to rise together against all forms of violence, to protect the dignity of women, and to reaffirm our collective commitment to peace, justice, and humanity,” the STH stated.

Further, it conveyed “heartfelt condolences and unwavering solidarity to the bereaved family and community of the deceased.’
In a separate statement, the SASA stated that “such an inhumane and barbaric act has no place in our society.”
“Her untimely and tragic demise has left the entire sporting community and our association in profound grief. Her loss is not only a personal tragedy to her family but also a significant loss to the sports fraternity.”
The SASA urged the law enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned in investigating the case and ensure that the culprit(s) are apprehended and awarded befitting punishment they deserve under the law.
The association also appealed to every section of society and to all individuals to come together and make their voices heard, urging them to stand united and show the world that they would not tolerate such atrocities in their midst.
Meanwhile, the Western Angami Public Organisation (WAPO) expressed deep anguish upon over the great loss of the vibrant young woman who had been pursuing a bright career, bringing laurels in the field of both sports and academics to the family and to the society.
The organisation urged the state government and law enforcement authorities to expedite investigations and deliver justice swiftly and in full measure.
“The right to life is an inherent and inviolable right and we must not rest until the perpetrator(s) are prosecuted with the harshest extent of the law,” it stated.
