DIMAPUR — Different organisations have condemned the alleged abuse of an 11-year-old child by her foster mother from Pfütsero town and have called for legal action.

Centre Chakhesang Public Organisation (CCPO), in a statement, said that torturing an innocent girl child with a machete or other sharp materials is a deliberate attempt to take life, which is a grave violation of fundamental human rights.

It said that this act must be met with the strongest possible legal action and moral condemnation. Such violence, especially the inhumane behaviour of this adoptive mother, undermines the safety and trust within the family itself.

Stating that it stands in solidarity and extends its deepest sympathies to the victim and family members, CCPO called on the law enforcement agency to take swift action to ensure that the criminal is apprehended promptly and that justice is delivered without delay under the full extent of the law.

In a similar statement, the Thipüzumi Community Pfütsero, condemning “the unthinkable treatment”, said such inhuman behaviour is a total violation of the fundamental rights of a child and a disgrace to the motherly figure.

“This heinous crime is unprecedented to our community and culture,” it said, adding that while seeking justice against this inhuman act, the community sincerely prays for the recovery and healing of the child.

It demands immediate legal action against the perpetrator.

The Chokri Area Mother’s Association, condemning “the horrific violence and inhumane behaviour”, said that at an age when a child needs the most care, love, and protection from guardians and parents, the brutal abuse of the minor is unacceptable, and expressed outrage at the atrocious conduct.

It appealed to the authorities to take swift and appropriate action against the mother and ensure that justice is served to prevent such heinous acts from recurring.

The Chakhesang Students' Union, in a statement, called upon the concerned authorities to act with utmost urgency, conduct a fair and thorough investigation, and ensure that the perpetrator is brought to justice in accordance with the law.

Stating that delayed or diluted justice would set a dangerous precedent and further endanger vulnerable lives, the union said the rights and safety of every child must remain a collective priority.

The Chakhesang Mothers’ Association (CMA) also condemned the act and noted that this evil act of a mother has totally destroyed the free-spirited and healthy growth of the child and has put all mothers to shame and left them heartbroken.

“Mothers are to care and love even when everyone ceases to care and love. This evil act is unthinkable and shocking. The CMA demands that the culprit be booked at the earliest by the enforcement agencies and the severest punishment under the law be accorded to ensure that such an act of depravity will face the full force of the law, without leniency or delay,” a statement issued by the CMA read.

The CMA pledged to keep track of the progress of the case.
