One person died in a head-on collision involving a Gypsy and dumper truck on National Highway-29 at Kukidolong.

DIMAPUR — One person was killed in a head-on collision between a Gypsy and a dumper truck along NH-29 at Kukidolong on May 25.
According to a traffic officer from Chümoukedima, pothole repair work was underway along the stretch at the time of the accident and traffic had been diverted.
Police received a distress call at around 1:45 pm and rushed to the site, the officer said.
Preliminary information indicated that the Gypsy was travelling towards Kohima while the dumper truck was heading towards Chümoukedima when the collision occurred.
The victim sustained severe injuries and was taken to hospital, where he was declared brought dead. The body was handed over to the family later the same day.

The deceased was identified as Hokugha from Litsami village under Zunheboto district, who was residing at Padumpukhuri in Dimapur.
The officer said it was too early to determine responsibility for the accident and that the exact cause would be established only after completion of the investigation.
He informed that the driver of the dumper truck was arrested on May 25 and is currently under judicial custody.
The officer also informed that the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur convened a meeting on Tuesday with NHIDCL contractors, although details of the meeting outcome were not immediately available.
Funeral services for the deceased were held on Tuesday, following which he was laid to rest at Naga Cemetery, Zani. He is survived by his wife and son.
