Old Jalukie village banishes attempted rape accused

  • DIMAPUR — The Old Jalukie Village Council (OJVC) has banished Iriesibe, the accused in the attempted rape on a minor girl, from the village for a period of three years.

  • In an order dated June 6, the OJVC chairman Hainkieng and Old Jalukie village GBs Pausui and Samyibe stated that the resolution was taken at a special meeting of the village council on June 5. The meeting, attended by elders, clan representatives, community leaders, and council members, deliberated on customary norms and practices.

  • The accused has been prohibited from entering the village or participating in any form of social, cultural, or religious gatherings of the community during the entire duration of the ban. The decision was take as per customary law, it stated.

  • Meanwhile, in a separate press statement, the Jalukie Pumling Mipui Organisation (JPMO) has condemned the May 31 attempted rape incident of a 14-year-old minor girl by Iriesibe at Old Jalukie ‘Sector B’ village.

  • “This vile and reprehensible act is a shameful betrayal of our shared humanity and a direct assault on the dignity, safety, and innocence of a child. It has inflicted deep pain not only upon the survivor and her family but upon the conscience of every right-thinking member of society,” the JPMO stated.
