DIMAPUR — The Old Boys Association of Sainik Schools (OBASS), Nagaland Chapter, led by its president HK Khulu, retd. Additional Chief Secretary presented the Golden Citation to Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, bearing admission no. 351 and an alumnus of Sainik School Purulia, West Bengal.
According to an update, the honour was bestowed in recognition of his conferment of the esteemed Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa), acknowledging his outstanding contributions to public service and leadership.
“The Association takes immense pride in Dr. Rio’s remarkable 50-year political journey. His public service, beginning with his election to office in 1989, includes serving five terms as the Chief Minister of Nagaland, one term as a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha, and continuous commitment to the development of the state and the nation,” it read.

OBASS maintained that Rio’s involvement as a founding member of OBASS, Nagaland Chapter, further reflects his dedication to fostering unity and leadership within the alumni community.
In his address to fellow alumni, Rio encouraged the Old Boys to actively promote and propagate farming, drawing inspiration from Israel’s progressive agricultural practices. He highlighted the vast potential in coffee farming, dairying, and other agribusiness ventures as avenues for sustainable economic growth and youth empowerment.
