Official launch of 9th Captain N Kengurüse MVC Memorial Football Tournament

KOHIMA — The official poster, mascot (Mithun Warrior), and theme song of the 9th Captain N Kengurüse MVC Memorial Football Tournament 2025–26, organised by Spear Corps and Assam Rifles in collaboration with the Nagaland Football Association, were unveiled on Monday at Kohima Science College.

The tournament will be held from October 22 to November 6, at IG Stadium, Kohima.

Abu Metha, Advisor to the Chief Minister, lauded the organisers and described the late Captain Kengurüse as a legend and nation-builder. He highlighted the unifying power of sports and urged the community to support the tournament.

Dr. Tsielhoutuo Rhutso, MLA and former classmate of Captain Kengurüse, said the tournament is more than a sporting event—it teaches life lessons. He encouraged players to respect the game, opponents, and sportsmanship.

Speeches were also delivered by Neiselie Kengurüse, father of the late captain, and Deputy IG Samir Palande.

The prize pool totals INR 6.5 lakh: champions will receive INR 3 lakh, first runners-up INR 1.5 lakh, second runners-up INR 75,000, and third runners-up INR 50,000.
