DIMAPUR — Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has issued a weather advisory warning of heavy to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms across several districts during the period between October 30 and November 3.

According to the NSDMA update, Meluri district is likely to experience moderate rain with thunderstorms from October 31 to November 2, while Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Kohima, Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon and Niuland may receive heavy rain with thunderstorms on October 31 and November 1.

Peren, Phek, Shamator, Tuensang, Tseminyu, Wokha and Zunheboto are expected to witness light to moderate rainfall at isolated locations on November 2, it stated.

The NSDMA cautioned that lowland and foothill areas—particularly in Dimapur, Niuland, Chümoukedima, Bhandari, Baghty, Tizit and Tuli—could face inundation, waterlogging and flash floods due to heavy precipitation in the hill sectors.

In view of the weather conditions, the authority advised residents in vulnerable areas to take precautionary measures, including: keeping important documents and valuables in safe locations; evacuating low-lying areas if instructed by authorities; avoiding contact with floodwaters and food contaminated by them; disconnecting electrical appliances and keeping them above ground level; boiling or chlorinating water before consumption; and remaining alert to open drains and flood channels.

It also directed all district disaster management authorities and departments concerned to remain on high alert to safeguard lives and property during this period.

Citizens have been urged to exercise caution and report emergencies to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) at the toll-free number 1070.
