DIMAPUR — The Kohima District Football Association (KDFA) and Kohima District Athletics Association (KDAA) have condemned the recent brutal murder of Vihozhonu Zao, a young and promising basketball player, in Kohima.

In a condemnation note, the KDFA stated the tragedy is not only a loss to her family and friends but also to the entire sporting community of Kohima and Nagaland.

The KDFA also urged the law-enforcing agencies to expedite the ongoing investigation and ensure that justice is served swiftly and decisively.

“We further appreciate the Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) for taking suo motu cognisance of the case and call upon all concerned authorities and citizens to work together to ensure that such acts of violence find no place in our society,” it stated.

In a separate statement, the Kohima District Athletics Association (KDAA) stated that the tragic and barbaric act of violence has robbed the sporting fraternity of an upcoming young talent.

“Her untimely demise is an irreparable loss not only to her family and teammates but also to the wider sports community that values unity, teamwork, and the spirit of fair play,” the association stated.

While condemning the heinous crime in the strongest possible terms, it called upon the concerned authorities to carry out a prompt, thorough, and impartial investigation so that the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.

“Let this tragedy remind us all of the importance of safeguarding our youth and ensuring that peace, respect, and compassion prevail in our society,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the Northern Angami Public Organisation (NAPO) also condemned the “inhumane and heinous act,” and urged the law enforcing agencies to investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice under the harshest laws.

“NAPO extends our deepest condolences to the bereaved family and prays that the Almighty grants them strength and comfort at this hard time of pain and grief,” the NAPO stated in a press release.
