DIMAPUR — The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has predicted widespread rainfall across all districts of the state from July 1 to the 8th, with the likelihood of thunderstorms and lightning during the period.
In an update issued on Monday, the NSDMA stated that heavy rainfall is expected in most districts between July 2 and July 6, while very heavy rainfall has been specifically predicted for Kiphire and Tuensang on July 2 and 3.
It cautioned that these weather conditions may lead to disruptions in transportation, and pose hazards including lightning strikes, strong winds, and flooding.
“Due to the risk of high precipitation in the hill sector, Nagaland's lowland and foothill districts, including Dimapur, Niuland, Chümoukedima, Bhandari, Baghty, Tizit, and Tuli, may be vulnerable to inundated waterlogging and flash floods.
“In this regard, NSDMA, Home Department, urges the public to exercise caution to avoid any eventualities during this period. The NSDMA, Home Department, also requests all the District Disaster Management Authorities and other line departments to remain on high alert to safeguard lives and property during the monsoon season,” it stated.
