- DIMAPUR — Nagaland State Disaster Management
Authority (NSDMA) has issued a weather advisory, warning of heavy to very heavy
rainfall across all districts from May 27 to June 3.
- In particular, the NSDMA predicted very heavy rainfall in
Shamator district on May 27 and the 28th. The remainder of the state is
expected to experience very heavy rainfall from June 1 to the 3rd.
- “These may be accompanied with lightning and thunderstorms
in isolated places. As a result, it is vital to take the necessary measures at
this period, including avoiding lightning strikes and high-speed winds, which
can disrupt communication and connectivity.
- “Due to the risk of high precipitation in the hills sector,
Nagaland’s lowland and foothill districts, including Dimapur, Niuland,
Chumoukedima, Bhandari, Baghty, Tizit and Tuli, are vulnerable to inundated
waterlogging and flash floods,” it stated.
- The NSDMA advised the public to exercise caution during this
period. It also requested all District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs)
and other relevant departments to remain on high alert to protect lives and
property during the monsoon season.
- “For any emergencies contact State Emergency Operations
Centre (SEOC): Toll Free (1070),” it informed.
