NSDMA forecasts thunderstorms, lightning and varying intensity of rainfall across Nagaland from September 4 to 7, with heavy rain expected in several districts on September 7.
DIMAPUR — The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has forecast thunderstorms, lightning and varying intensity of rainfall across several districts of the State from September 4 to the 7th.
According to the weather outlook issued by the NSDMA, Home Department, thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rain are expected in Kiphire, Kohima, Meluri, Mon, Noklak, Phek, Shamator and Zunheboto on September 4.
Light to moderate rain is forecast for Longleng, Niuland, Tseminyu, Tuensang and Wokha, while Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Mokokchung and Peren are likely to receive light rain.
On September 5, thunderstorms with light to moderate rain are expected in Kiphire, Longleng, Meluri, Mon, Noklak, Shamator, Tuensang and Zunheboto.
Kohima, Mokokchung and Phek may experience thunderstorms with light rain, while Dimapur, Niuland and Peren have been placed under thunderstorm/lightning risk.
Overcast conditions are expected in Chümoukedima, with light rain forecast in Tseminyu and Wokha.

For September 6, thunderstorms with light to moderate rain are forecast in most places in Kohima, Phek and Zunheboto, while Kiphire, Meluri, Mokokchung, Mon, Noklak, Shamator, Tseminyu and Tuensang are also expected to experience thunderstorms with light to moderate rain.
Dimapur, Longleng and Niuland may receive thunderstorms with light rain. Light rain is forecast for Chümoukedima and Peren, while Wokha may receive light to moderate rain.
The NSDMA has issued a high alert for September 7, with heavy to moderate-heavy rain expected in Dimapur, Kohima, Longleng, Meluri, Mokokchung, Mon, Niuland, Noklak, Phek, Tseminyu, Tuensang, Wokha and Zunheboto.
Light to moderate rain is forecast for Chümoukedima, Kiphire, Peren and Shamator.
The five-day rainfall outlook indicates considerable variation across districts.
The highest cumulative rainfall is expected in Mon at 150.11 mm, followed by Tuensang at 149.38 mm, Zunheboto at 140.52 mm, Phek at 136.29 mm, Noklak at 131.93 mm, Tseminyu at 131.62 mm and Meluri at 130.81 mm. Shamator and Kohima are expected to record 125.72 mm and 119.92 mm, respectively.
The NSDMA has advised the public to regularly monitor the latest weather updates through the Safer Nagaland mobile application and the NSDMA Weather Portal.
It also urged residents to avoid exposed locations during thunderstorms and exercise heightened caution while travelling during periods of heavy rainfall and poor visibility.
