KOHIMA — In a first of its kind, the Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) is organising district -wise ‘Mahila Jan Sunwai' (public hearings) to provide women with a direct, accessible platform to voice their grievances and seek institutional support.
The public hearings will run from March 9 to 13 covering 12 districts, to mark the International Women’s Day under the initiative of National Commission for Women.
This was announced during a press conference by NSCW Chairperson Nginyeih Konyak on Saturday at her office chamber in Kohima.

"Through this coordinated effort, complaints related to domestic violence, workplace harassment, maternity benefit, abandonment, trafficking, and other forms of gender-based injustice will be heard and addressed", she said.
Key highlight is the focus on time-bound and swift grievance redressal. Walk-in complaints will also be heard during that time.
Chairperson and members from the NSCW, district administration, district legal services authorities (DALSAs), police authorities, legal experts, and protection officers will be present to ensure immediate hearing of complaints, registration and escalation of serious cases, legal guidance and procedural assistance and time-bound follow-up mechanisms, she added.
By taking the grievance redressal mechanism directly to districts and grassroots levels, the initiative seeks to bridge institutional gaps and ensure that women especially from rural areas receive prompt institutional support without procedural delays, the chairperson noted.
This initiative reflects the vision of moving beyond symbolic celebration towards tangible justice delivery and empowerment.
It also underscores the shared resolve of national and state bodies to create safer, more responsive ecosystems for women across India, she said.
