NSCN-IM denies involvement in deadly Ukhrul ambush, rejects 'Eastern Flank' claims, reaffirms ceasefire and commitment to peace talks
DIAMPUR — Hours after a deadly ambush on an Assam Rifles convoy in Manipur's Ukhrul district claimed the lives of two personnel and triggered reports linking the attack to the group’s “Eastern Flank” faction, the NSCN-IM on Monday categorically denied any involvement, asserting that no such faction exists within its Naga Army and reaffirming its commitment to the Indo-Naga peace process.
In a statement issued from Camp Hebron, the NSCN-IM asserted that the reported attack in the Nungshang River area near Hungpung village “has no connection whatsoever with the NSCN/GPRN.”
"There exists no Eastern Flank in the Naga Army of the NSCN/GPRN," the organisation stated.
The group categorically denied any involvement in the incident and maintained that it remains committed to the ceasefire agreement signed with the government of India.
"The organisation remains firmly committed to the ceasefire agreement with the government of India and continues to uphold its responsibilities under the agreed ground rules," it said.

The NSCN-IM further asserted that it would never undertake any action that could undermine or derail the ongoing Indo-Naga political negotiations.
"The pursuit of an honourable and peaceful political solution remains the unwavering commitment of the NSCN/GPRN," the statement read.
Condemning activities that could jeopardise the peace process, the organisation called on all stakeholders to exercise restraint and responsibility to ensure that progress made in the Indo-Naga political talks is not disrupted by acts capable of creating mistrust and instability.
According to reports, two Assam Rifles personnel were killed and several others injured when suspected militants opened fire on a convoy in Nungshang Khong area of Ukhrul district around 1.30 pm on Monday.
Manipur Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam condemned the attack, describing it as an act that disrupts peace and harmony in the violence-hit state. Security forces have since launched search operations in the area to track down those responsible.
