ICAR-NRCM organises awareness programme on scientific Mithun production in Pasighat to promote sustainable farming practices.

DIMAPUR — An awareness programme on ‘Scientific Mithun Production Practices’ was organised on Monday at the College of Horticulture and Forestry, Pasighat, by the ICAR–National Research Centre (ICAR–NRC) on Mithun, Medziphema, Nagaland.
According to an update, the event was held in collaboration with the Department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Dairy Development, Arunachal Pradesh; the College of Horticulture and Forestry, Pasighat; and the Jomlo Mongku Mithun Farmers Federation, Siang.
The programme saw the participation of over 200 participants, including more than seven district veterinary officers (DVOs), officials from line departments, and Mithun farmers from various districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
Dr. Girish Patil S, director of ICAR–NRC on Mithun, highlighted prevailing Mithun rearing practices and key challenges affecting productivity. He stressed the adoption of scientific feeding, preventive healthcare, and disease management to improve production and farmers’ livelihoods.
A farmer–scientist interaction session facilitated the exchange of field-level issues and technical solutions, strengthening collaboration among researchers, veterinarians, and farmers for sustainable Mithun development.
