LONGKHUM — I Abenjang, the National People’s Party (NPP) candidate for the 28 Koridang (ST) Assembly Constituency by-election, announced his candidature at his native village of Longkhum on Thursday.
The declaration ceremony was attended by senior party leaders, well-wishers, and local residents.
Speaking on the occasion, Abenjang described the upcoming by-election as a crucial opportunity for political renewal and resurrection for the people of Koridang. He stated that the electoral battle would be fought on the principles of peace and love, moving away from the violence that had marred previous polls in the area.

“My goal is to secure victory not through violence, but by following the path of peace,” he declared. Abenjang appealed to the people, urging them to set a positive example for the rest of Nagaland.
Clarifying his decision to contest, Abenjang said that he has entered the electoral contest purely out of his own free will and strong personal conviction.
Speaking on the Naga political issue, Abenjang described it as a trinity comprising “Nationalism, patriotism, and identity”. He said that these three elements are inseparable and that the strong foundation laid by the forefathers on this trinity remains the guiding ideology he stands upon.
Meanwhile, Vevoyi Wideo, National Vice President of the NPP, announced that Conrad Kongkal Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya and National President of the NPP will launch the candidate’s campaign at Longkhum on March 31.
