The NPF Youth Wing and Tseminyu Town Councillors organised a two-day sports meet to promote a drug-free lifestyle.

DIMAPUR — The NPF Youth Wing, Tseminyu Division, in collaboration with the Tseminyu Town Councillors (TTC), organised a two-day sports meet on the theme "Victory over drugs, one district, one mission" in Tseminyu town on April 9 and 10.
According to an update, the event was anchored by the collective pledge "Play clean, stay clean", drawing athletes and community members from across the town.
The opening ceremony on April 9 was attended by Japhet Woch, Deputy Commissioner of Tseminyu district, as the special guest.
In his address, Woch highlighted the importance of discipline and punctuality in sports. He also raised awareness about the prevalence of drug abuse, intoxicants, and HIV & AIDS in the district, noting that sports serve as a powerful rehabilitation tool that can redirect youth away from harmful habits.
Earlier in the morning, the marathon run was flagged off by Ruth Thong, Chairperson of TTC, while Walathong Jemu briefed the marathoners.

The closing ceremony on April 10 was attended by Jwenga Kent, Chairman of Tseminyu Union, as special guest, along with Tracy Kent Seb, Chairperson.
Kent stated that the youth of Tseminyu have the capacity to compete with other districts and possess the potential to perform at the state and national levels. He encouraged the young athletes to believe in their abilities and to channel their energy into sports, which he described as a dignified and powerful alternative to destructive habits.
Hyunilo Anilo Khing, Honorary Secretary of the Nagaland Cricket Association, delivered a short speech stressing that sports is the fastest-growing industry and a viable career option. He further noted that sports acts as a medium to bring unity among people, bridging the generational gap between the old and young.
The event concluded with prize distribution. An exhibition T20 cricket match was also played between Tseminyu District Cricket Association and Rengma Selo Zi on April 10.
For all-round sporting excellence, Ward No. 7 (Tsonchosen) emerged as the overall champion of the 1st Inter-Ward Sports Meet. The ward delivered a stellar performance across multiple disciplines, securing honours in men's futsal and impressive finishes in other events.
In the open men's marathon, Ambrose Magh of Ward No. 5 (Old Thana) secured the first position, followed by Senchulo Magh of Ward No. 3 (Rest House) and Shahilo Khing of Ward No. 4 (ADC Hill) in second and third places, respectively. Wilson Seb of Ward No. 2 (NST) and Haiwa Kez of Ward No. 6 (Telecom) finished fourth and fifth.
In the open women's marathon, Behisha Kent of Ward No. 3 secured the first position, followed by Tesinye Semp of Ward No. 7, Lydia Khing of Ward No. 7, and Roni Khing of Ward No. 6 in the subsequent positions.
The youngest participants to reach the finish line were 12-year-old Tenyehun Tep of Ward No. 3 and 13-year-old Shayhun Kent of Ward No. 4. The oldest participant to complete the run was 57-year-old Gwatilo Tep of Ward No. 3.
In the open men's doubles badminton, Sonyelo and Moameren secured the first position, while Sogwalo and Alfred took the second spot. Ward No. 4 won the badminton mixed doubles inter-ward competition, with Ward No. 9 (GHSS) finishing second.
In the carrom board, Ward No. 3 claimed the first position, followed by Ward No. 6. In the women's penalty shootout, Ward No. 2 took the top spot, with Ward No. 7 coming in second. In men's futsal, Ward No. 8 (Veterinary) emerged victorious, while Ward No. 7 secured the runner-up position.
