Mokokchung division of the Naga People’s Front celebrates Moatsü

DIMAPUR — Mokokchung division of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) celebrated Moatsü, premier festival of the Ao community, at its office premises in Mokokchung on Friday with Metsubo Jamir, minister of Rural Development and SIRD, as the special guest.
An update from NPF Mokkochung stated that Moatsü is celebrated with deep cultural reverence and vibrant festivity. It is observed annually in the month of May after the completion of sowing. It added that the spring festival was traditionally dedicated to honouring the gods of nature, seeking their blessings for a plentiful harvest, characterised by folk songs, traditional dances, feasting and spirited gatherings. It said Moatsü embodies joy, unity and thanksgiving.
Metsubo, who is also minister in-charge of the Mokokchung district, called upon the party workers to remain united and stand strong and be able to face any challenges. As Moatsü is a blessing festival, he stated that it is a blessing for the party as it is the first festival post merger between NDPP and NPF.

The minister urged the leaders to strengthen the party at the grassroots. He also called for mobilisation to further strengthen the party.
He further lauded the efforts in organising this year’s Moatsü festival and expressed hope that the celebration would continue in the coming years.
Earlier in the programme, the welcome address was delivered by Repameren Yaden, president of NPF Mokokchung division. Cultural songs were presented by parent body NPF Mokokchung division and women wing.
Moatsü greetings were delivered by N Bendang Jamir, PDA member and senior vice president of NPF central; Lanukaba, vice president of NPF central; and Meitiba Longkumer, president of NPF 21 Tuli AC.
It was followed by Moatsü feast.
