DIMAPUR — The Naga People’s Front (NPF) on Friday welcomed Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio’s recent engagements with the Centre on key political and financial issues concerning Nagaland, while hailing the signing of the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA) agreement as a landmark achievement in the state’s history.
In a press statement, the NPF expressed appreciation to Rio, who is also the party president, and the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) delegation for what it described as “productive engagement” with the government of India on matters of vital importance to Nagaland.
The party welcomed Rio’s call for reviving the Indo-Naga peace talks at the highest political level and pointed out the Union home minister’s indication of renewed political-level engagement in the peace process.

The NPF also commended the chief minister for highlighting Nagaland’s financial concerns before the Centre, particularly the demand for restoration of the earlier financial arrangement under the 16-Point Agreement, as well as for seeking relaxation of the Protected Area Permit regime and a review of the revised Free Movement Regime guidelines.
It expressed hope that the assurances given by the Centre would translate into concrete action to address the state’s fiscal challenges and promote the welfare of the Naga people.
The NPF also described February 5, 2026 as a “red-letter day” for Nagaland, noting that the NPF-led People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) government had successfully inked the FNTA agreement, calling it a major milestone for the state.
