Northeast Frontier Railway enhances customer interface and logistics efficiency

DIMAPUR — The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has undertaken several proactive measures to enhance customer satisfaction and augment railway freight revenue during the month of June 2025.

In a press release, the NFR stated that these initiatives are aimed at strengthening freight logistics, streamlining cargo movement and supporting regional agricultural and industrial supply chains.

As part of this effort, the Bengdubi Project Military Siding (BPMS) under Katihar Division has been opened for handling inward parcel traffic in VP rakes with effect from June 4, 2025.

“This strategic move will help cater to growing logistics demands in the region. Further strengthening the freight infrastructure, the Gati Shakti Multi-modal Cargo Terminal (GCT) at Balurghat, served by Balurghat station under the Katihar Division, has been operationalised for handling inward food grain traffic from June 10, 2025. This is expected to significantly improve the handling of agri-based commodities,” it stated.

Under the Business Development Unit (BDU) initiative, the NFR achieved substantial freight movement during June 2025. A total of 1,332 wagons of stone chips were booked under Lumding Division from various locations- 294 wagons from Shokhuvi to Jirania, Ambassa, Belonia, Bairabi; 681 wagons from Bihara to Jirania, Belonia; 315 wagons from Ditokcherrato Jirania and 21 wagons each from Sribar and Salchapra to Jirania.

This extensive operation generated a significant amount of freight revenue. Additionally, two rakes (84 wagons) of maize were loaded from Falakata and Tufanganj stations under Alipurduar Division and dispatched to Banapuraand Muzaffarnagar stations.

Additionally, 0.5 rakes (105 wagons) of potatoes was loaded from Dhupguri station and dispatched to Jirania station.

“These targeted efforts under the BDU framework demonstrate NFR’s commitment to expanding freight business by tapping new traffic, optimising terminal usage, and offering customer-friendly solutions.

“Northeast Frontier Railway continues to focus on improving its freight services and customer interface while contributing meaningfully to the logistics and supply chain ecosystem of the region,” the release added.
