- DIMAPUR — As part of its ongoing commitment to
environmental sustainability and in observance of World Environment Day 2025,
Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is conducting a comprehensive cleanliness
drive from May 25 to the 27th.
- In a press release on Monday, the NFR stated that these
activities are aimed at promoting sustainable practices, encouraging community
participation and reducing plastic pollution across railway premises.
- The initiative focuses on enhancing waste management
practices across its stations. Waste segregation bins have been installed on
platforms, accompanied by awareness campaigns to educate passengers on their
proper use.

- Cleanliness drives are being carried out at railway stations
and in the surrounding areas, with the active involvement of local communities
and NGOs.
- In an effort to reduce plastic waste, IRCTC is also
promoting the use of non-plastic, eco-friendly, biodegradable cutlery through a
dedicated awareness campaign.
- “Additional waste segregation bins are being installed to
improve waste sorting infrastructure and passengers are being encouraged to
participate actively.
- “Furthermore, railway staff are being sensitised on proper
waste segregation practices, with a particular emphasis on managing organic
waste and reducing plastic usage,” the NFR stated.
- As part of World Environment Day 2025, Northeast Frontier
Railway (NFR) undertook several impactful initiatives across its divisions to
promote environmental awareness and sustainability.
- The campaign was inaugurated at the DRM office in Tinsukia
with a pledge ceremony, followed by a walkathon to advocate against single-use
plastic. At New Alipurduar station, awareness drives on plastic waste
management and proper use of waste segregation bins were held on May 24 and 25,
respectively.
- Additionally, a door-to-door campaign was conducted in
Alipurduar Railway colonies to educate residents on the harmful effects of
plastic and encourage eco-friendly practices. These activities reflect NFR’s
ongoing commitment to a cleaner and greener environment, it stated.
- “Through this multifaceted campaign, Northeast Frontier
Railway reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability and
encouraged collective action for a cleaner, greener future,” the release added.
