Noklak district administration will enforce a ban on single-use plastic items in Noklak Town Council from June 5, 2026.

DIMAPUR — The Noklak district administration has announced a ban on certain single-use plastic (SUP) items within the jurisdiction of the Noklak Town Council with effect from June 5, 2026, in view of the serious environmental hazards caused by plastic waste.
According to the notification issued in compliance with the Urban Development department notification, the banned items include all single-use plastic carry bags irrespective of thickness, size or colour, as well as single-use plastic bottles used for drinking water and soft drinks with a capacity of less than one litre.
The administration informed that violations of the notification will attract strict penalties. A first offence will invite a fine of INR 10,000, while a second offence will attract a penalty of INR 20,000. For subsequent offences, the trade licence or permit of the violator will be cancelled.
It further stated that regular checking and inspections will be carried out by the enforcement team to ensure strict implementation of the ban.

Any violation detected during such inspections will be dealt with as per the penalty provisions.
All individual vendors, commercial establishments, institutions and organisations have been directed to discontinue the use, sale, storage and distribution of the banned items.
The administration also encouraged the public to adopt eco-friendly alternatives such as cloth bags, jute bags and reusable water containers.
It appealed for the cooperation of all stakeholders in making Noklak a cleaner, healthier and more environmentally responsible town.
