African Swine Fever outbreak at Toulazouma Village prompts containment and pig movement restrictions in Chümoukedima.

DIMAPUR — Following the confirmation of an outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) at Toulazouma Village under Chümoukedima district, Deputy Commissioner of Chümoukedima, Polan John, has issued an advisory enforcing immediate containment and preventive measures until further orders.
According to the advisory, the area within a one-kilometre radius of the outbreak epicentre at Toulazouma Village has been declared an “Infected Zone,” while areas within a 10-kilometre radius have been designated as a “Surveillance Zone.”
The movement and transportation of pigs, pork, pig products, animal feed and related materials within and outside the notified zones have been strictly prohibited.
Slaughter, sale and distribution of pigs and pork products within the containment zones will also remain banned until further notification.

To contain the spread of the disease, the Veterinary department, along with law enforcement agencies, will carry out surveillance, monitoring and other preventive measures in the affected areas.
All village councils, GBs, ward authorities, butchers, meat vendors and members of the public have been directed to strictly comply with the advisory and immediately report any unusual sickness or death of pigs to the nearest Veterinary office.
The advisory further directed pig farm owners to maintain strict biosecurity measures, including regular disinfection and restricted access to farms.
Disposal of pig carcasses must be carried out strictly in accordance with protocols prescribed by the Veterinary department and the Government of India guidelines.
It also warned that any violation of the advisory would invite action under the relevant provisions of law.
The advisory comes into force with immediate effect and will remain in force until further notification.
