DIMAPUR — Political uncertainty has surfaced in Niuland Town Council (NTC) after a no-confidence motion was moved against chairperson V Samuel Holo, days after a similar move rocked the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC).
According to an official notice issued by the deputy commissioner of Niuland on Monday, a written notice expressing intention to move a no-confidence motion against the chairperson was submitted on May 11 under Section 15 of the Nagaland Municipal Act 2023.
The notice stated that the motion was signed by more than half of the total number of elected members currently serving in the council, excluding ex-officio and nominated members, and was delivered to the deputy commissioner by two members who had duly appended their signatures.
Following the submission, the deputy commissioner convened a meeting of all nine elected members of the Niuland Town Council on May 25 at 11 am at the council office to consider the motion.

“All the 9 (nine) elected members of Niuland Town Council are directed to attend the meeting without fail,” the notice stated.
The NTC has nine elected members, including six councillors from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and three Independent members.
The development comes amid a growing political standoff in urban local bodies in Nagaland.
Earlier this month, 12 elected members of the Dimapur Municipal Council moved a no-confidence motion against chairperson Hukheto Yepthomi, exposing divisions within the ruling coalition in the civic body.
The motion in the DMC was reportedly backed by six councillors each from the BJP and the Naga People’s Front (NPF), led by deputy chairperson Imlinaro Stephanie Ezung. A floor test in the DMC has been scheduled for May 22.
