A district review meeting on the National Leprosy Eradication Program was held in Phek on June 29.

DIMAPUR — State Leprosy Officer Dr. Ruokuohelie Rutsa, along with his team from the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, Kohima, conducted a review meeting with the National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP) staff at the chief medical officer’s (CMO) conference hall in Phek on June 29 to assess preparedness for leprosy eradication by 2027.
According to an update, Dr. Rutsa encouraged the staff to spread awareness about leprosy, noting that the disease is curable with early diagnosis and proper treatment. He also stated that they should ensure everyone has access to free treatment and work to stop the spread of the disease.
Hokito (Non-Medical Supervisor), NLEP, Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, highlighted the SPARSH Leprosy awareness campaign, which consists of year-long activities, and urged the NLEP staff to carry out community screening for active case finding.
The staff members were requested to create awareness using different platforms, such as during Village Health and Nutrition Days (VHNDs) and other important events. They were also reminded to disseminate information to village councils, medical officers, community health officers, nurses, and ASHAs.
Vizakielie Theunuo, a para-medical worker, shared information about the new format launched recently for monthly reporting and the SPARSH campaign. He directed them to submit the reports on time to the state, before the 6th of every month.
Thejasetuo Paphino, DEO NLEP, shared details on NIKUSTH, a digital registry for patient tracking, contact tracing, and treatment monitoring.
