Nagaland Assembly Speaker Sharingain Longkumer attended a key meeting on uniform legislative rules in Mysuru.

DIMAPUR — Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA), Sharingain Longkumer, accompanied by Secretary NLA, Khruohituonuo Rio, and other officials attended the first meeting of the ‘Committee of the Presiding Officers to frame the uniform Model of Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business of Legislative Bodies’ in Mysuru, Karnataka, from May 11 to the 13th.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Satish Mahana, Speaker of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, who gave the keynote address on the proposed ‘Uniform Model Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business,” the NLA Secretariat stated in an update.
The committee deliberated extensively on the formulation of uniform model rules of procedure and conduct of business across the country.

Recognising the importance of a broad-based consultative process, the committee resolved to seek the views and suggestions of the Speakers of various state legislative assemblies in this regard before finalising its report for submission to the Speaker, Lok Sabha.
It was also decided that the secretaries of Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Delhi. Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka and Nagaland will have a separate meeting and examine the rules where uniformity of rules can be implemented.
The next meeting of the committee is scheduled to be held in New Delhi.
